Volunteer Voice - Elizabeth Mitchell

I’ve been volunteering for Helping Link for more than three years now, since 2021. I help on the Fund Development Team, researching and writing grant applications, supporting other kinds of fundraising, and maintaining relationships with funders. It’s tremendously rewarding. I’ve met and connected with wonderful, talented people. I’ve known the thrill of success in helping to secure funding for Helping Link. Also, I’m sure it contributes to my overall wellbeing. Haven’t you seen those articles that say giving your time and talents is actually very good for you, like exercising, eating well, or getting enough sleep? But beyond personal wellbeing, I believe it’s important to help create the kind of community where you want to live. If you want to live in a place where people look out for and help each other, then the best way to make that happen is by volunteering yourself. This spring, I’d like to encourage all of you to volunteer in your community. We’d love to have you join the team at Helping Link!
We are living in uncertain times, and the news is often overwhelming. But one thing you can be certain about is your commitment to yourself and your local community. Now more than ever, we all need to consider our talents and skills and find ways to share them with the people who live around us. It doesn’t have to take too much of your time, either. Just a few hours per week or month can make a huge difference!
